The tiredness...it's finally hit me

This week marks 18 weeks pregnant, and I think it’s finally hit me… the tiredness. I’ve been cruising along pretty well so far, still playing plenty of golf and keeping busy, but this week was the first time I truly felt my energy drop like a stone.

I was feeling like pregnancy wasn’t slowing me down one bit… or so I thought. I did have a bit of a weird turn on the Friday late morning, hormones I think. Dizziness, shaky and feeling generally unwell. My lips even turned a strange blue colour. But water, food and some rest did me good and I was back to normal in half an hour.

This was all just before I was due to head out the door to play. Thankfully, I was feeling much better and managed to head over to join the guys from Bewdley Pines Golf Club at Ludlow Golf Club where we played in a Texas Scramble Team Open. The weather was great, the company was brilliant, and I played some good golf too which helped. We even managed to win out of all the Bewdley Pines groups, which made it even sweeter.

Saturday was Charity Day at the Pines. One of those days where the atmosphere is buzzing, everyone’s in great spirits, and it’s all for a good cause. I started strong, with a cracking front nine, but about halfway through the back nine… the energy just vanished. It was like someone pulled the plug.

We teed off early in the morning, and by the time I got home, I knew I needed to rest. I had a recharge before heading back down to the club to join the rest of the fun. I’m glad I did, because the day was a huge success over £10,000 raised for Wolfram UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.

On a personal note, I even managed to win two nearest the pins, which were on the front nine giving me a little boost despite the tiredness.

Up until now, my second trimester has felt like the “golden” stage everyone talks about more energy, fewer symptoms, and feeling a bit more like myself again. But this week reminded me that pregnancy is still a huge demand on the body.

At 18 weeks, the baby is growing rapidly, my blood volume has increased, and my body is constantly working behind the scenes. Even on days when I think I have the energy for a few holes, I’m learning the hard way that my limits are very different now.

Looking ahead, I’m not planning on hanging up my clubs anytime soon, but I will be making a few changes, maybe spacing my rounds out more, swapping some 18s for 9s, and knowing it’s ok to say no when my body says “enough.”
